Q. I would like my child to attend term time only; will this have a bad effect on him?
A. Really it depends on your child. If he is very adaptable and not likely to be upset by having his routine changed then he may be fine, generally though the disruption to a child’s routine is not a good idea. Why not discuss with your nursery a reduction in his attendance through the holidays so that he can spend more time with you and yet still keep in touch with his friends at nursery? Also bear in mind that many nurseries will charge you as normal even if your child attends less; although at Tots Nurseries we will do our best to fit in with families and providing we have notice we will accept reduced hours during school holiday periods.
Q. I am expecting my second baby very soon, should I take my daughter out of nursery for a few weeks whilst we settle down as a bigger family?
A. No, the best thing you can do is keep her routine as normal as possible. Make sure she gets lots of fuss and attention when she comes home from nursery and try to make her feel important and grown up because she is allowed to go to nursery where as the baby is just too little. If possible ask a friend to look after the baby sometimes when you take or collect your daughter from nursery so that she has your undivided attention and maintains her closeness to you.
